confused about M&B warband *tiny spoiler*

i just got the game. i did the first quest with finding the robbers and saving the merchants son or whatever. now im just wandering the expansive lands, killing a few teams of robbers. i literally have nothing to do. i have a group of about 70 men. every town i go to, the village elders either have nothing for me to do, or want me to bring 5 heads of cattle which is impossible because they just run away. and i trained a few peasants to fight for themselves.
while looking for excitement ive been doing "hostile actions" against every town they dont even fight back they just give me their truck loads of grapes and bread. is this all there is to the game? ive been to like 30 towns cant find anymore big quests.

Join a faction and fight some actual wars OR make your own kingdom by taking a castle or city.

Haha yeah your missing the whole point of the game... I guess I can see how it might be too sand box for total strangers to the series...

The game never really gives you objectives or anything, it puts you in a living world and you can chose your own path... I would start by talking to random lords you meet around the place, get missions from them, become a merc etc...

Go into towns and do tournys etc etc... Really its up to you but the game is fully epic...

I recommend however quiting your current game and downloading and installing this mod:
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,197.0.html

Fully better than native by like a million... Native isnt even worth playing compared to that mod...

Enjoy Warband, one of the best games Ive ever played to be honest.

P.S You have to drive cattle like in real life... So walk up to it in the direction you want it to go and then keep pushing/directing it that way... Its quite hard though lol.

You can get a mod that makes cattle follow you. I don't feel like finding it right now though

Game is relatively easy if you are just running around being a bandit but then again you are probably only on normal settings where you take less damage and what not. If you really want a harder challenge turn the difficulty up and fight larger battles (make sure to turn your AI limit up as well if possible).

For an even harder challenge try playing multiplayer on a duel server or something of that sort.

how do i take cities lol. and wage war. and join factions

Like I said above... Talk to Lords... Become a merc, meet people... They will ask you to go on campaign with them, eventually you can talk to your chosen factions king and become his vassal (a lord) in which you will be given your own village, you will fight for that Kingdom etc, get a castle, join seiges etc... And one day when your ready you can break away and start your own Kingdom...

Pick a faction you want to join and attack their enemies. Every now and then talk to a lord of the faction you want to join and ask him about being a vassal (or a mercenary if you don't mind, but you'll be under contract for a month or something). Once you are a vassal you'll get a single village. It'll also be much easier to recruit soldiers from your faction, so pick a faction whose soldiers you like.

There are other paths you can take, but they're more difficult so for your first game I'd just join a faction and conquer stuff with (or without) them.

Also when you conquer stuff for a faction, you don't necessarily get that castle or city, the king decides. It's kinda annoying.
