HF really is one of those stores you almost have to see in person, I cant seem to go in and spend less than $100 sometimes on just odds and ends and random tools you will only use on occasion.

Most of the stuff you listed though can be found other places in better quality for better prices most likely. I actually buy most of my shrink wrap and male/female connetors at the local hardware store in bulk or from china through ebay.

You say you are from Australia? If so I dont know the stores you should look for but I know someone who might.

Look up EEVblog on youtube, A guy named dave jones has a bunch of videos related to Electronics Engineering and they are full of really good info for anyone trying to get into the hobby/trade.

Yup they major in chemistry not pharmacy, or drug store. Hmmm how could someone not know what a chemist is?

They work well when you have to go portable. I have one with some common components, and asoldering iron; while the other one is loaded with various network connectors and some tools for that. One thing I did with the smaller containers was to cut pieces of air filter foam, and put that over the components in the trays to keep them from flying out all over the place when transporting the boxes.

In the day, old film containers were great for hardware, like screws and nuts, and I also used them for solder, especially when I didn't want to lug around a five pound spool of solder.

Alchemy is the predecessor to chemistry. Many discoveries by alchemist (especially their instruments) were later used in chemistry. The key difference between the two is that alchemy was more experimentation and had little bases on science (for instance they would just randomly combine materials in the hopes of making a philosophers stone or elixir of life), relying instead on random practice and mythology. While chemistry utilizes both experimentation and scientific practices. In short chemistry is derived from its primitive ancestor alchemy.

True just looked that up although it's called Pharmacology , and a chemist needs a Ph.D in Chemistry ( I never specified )... I didn't even realize you could cheat like that and just specialize in brand name drugs. However a I don't think a pharmacist can produce drugs like a chemist can. Most "drug stores" near where I live are called chemists for that very reason. Yes it's just a pharmacy, but they offer generic medication and can offer hard to get medications. Most pharmacy's that offer generic are usually chemists.

edit: just found this, there's not too much that comes up when googling difference between chemistry and pharmacology. This is from a Toronto University:

Quote:
How does the Pharmacology Specialist program differ from the Pharmaceutical Chemistry program?

The Pharmacology Specialist program is an undergraduate collaborative program between the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Faculty of Medicine. The Pharmaceutical Chemistry Specialist program is an undergraduate collaborative program between the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Faculty of Pharmacy that places greater emphasis on the chemical synthesis and manufacture of drugs.

You wouldn't find it strange if someone said they were majoring in alchemy?

Imagine walking through a drugstore and seeing an alchemy counter .
"Sir, your greater mana potion will be ready tomorrow afternoon."

I guess I just have an odd sense of humor .
