DSLR camera - Page 2

without a DSLR, u wont be able to reach those ultra wide focal lengths...

thru the real estate system, ive seen many pictures... more then 95% of mediocre at best... and taken with a normal camera...

the second we post my pictures on like CL, we get tons of applications.

it seriously makes a big difference

in some cases u wont use the lower end of the UWA lens when the property is big but when u do a lot of condos, etc in a small room, that UWA focal length really shines.

I'm still going to suggest a used/refurbished DSLR with 18-55mm kit lens. I can usually get a Rebel XTi/XSi with 18-55mm IS for around $300-$330, and it'd still do the job well.
go with what reincarnated is suggesting.. yah you wont get the UWA focal length but quality in pictures will DEFINITELY be MUCH MUCH better when using a DSLR...

Would a refurb or used DSLR have any wider of a shot vs a normal point and shoot camera? Noob questions here.

It depends on the lens. With the 18-55mm, I'd say it's about equal with the typical wide focal lengths a point and shoot can do, possibly with the point and shoot wider. The difference though is in the IQ. With the right technique, a DSLR with kit lens will blow the most expensive point and shoot out of the water.

As for the UWA, I'd raise the budget to $600. That'd give $300 for a body, $300 for the Sigma 10-20mm lens.

Although I'm starting to waver against my suggestion of a DSLR. I'm not trying to sound like a snob, but it really sounds like he knows nothing about photography. This is a bit of a caveat: A DSLR will have better IQ than a point and shoot, but unless he is willing to learn proper photographic technique (exposure, composition, framing, etc.), that difference won't become apparent in his photos.

I totally understand. Throwing a bunch of money at a problem wont do any good unless you know how to set it up and use it properly.

Neither of us knows anything about cameras.. keep that in mind. Forget the DSLR thing, is there a such thing as a glorified point and shoot camera with a wide(r) angle lens?

Guys hes looking for one real soon now... we are OK with buying used.

I have found a Canon EOS Rebel 300D with kit lens (18-55mm) for a good price.. I realize it doesnt come with a UWA lens but it should be a little wider than normal until we can afford a better lens.

I also found a Nikon D50 that comes with 2 lenses.. 18-55mm and 70-300mm. It is 100$ more than the Canon 300D.. is it worth it?

We bought the Nikon D50. It came with the 2 lenses I mentioned above.. I got it yesterday morning and have been playing with it ever since.... slowly learning what these settings do.
