6950 and 5870 in a same system?

Thread Starter
I know this question might be a noobish one but i'll just ask anyway . Is there any way i can run a 5870 and a 6950 2GB in a same rig? I know it's not possible for Crossfire, what i meant is using one of them as dedicated *mining* card (please don't talk about that topic here, i don't want mods to close my thread). Nvidia users can run one of the card as PhysX or folding while they use the main card for gaming and stuffs. So that's what i want to do here. Is that possible? Thanks all.

Elaborate on "mining" card. Never heard the term before. You want use the second card specifically for what ?

Eh so Does it mean you guys don't know for fact too ?

To Diabolical99: It's not possible to talk about that matter here. Threads on that topic were closed so... , but yeah, i'm thinking about a mining card to mine while using main card for gaming and such.

Mining = folding for money simply put. I'm also interested in this, getting a 6950 and I was wondering if I could use my current 5770 to mine 24/7 while 6950 would be for gaming/mining while idle. Mining doesn't take much CPU power so I think it would be great if I could mine with my 5770 while gaming let's say BFBC2 with the 6950 I'm getting soon.

it's fine. im doing it right now, but u either need a dummy plug or if your monitor has another plug for something, u need to plug the gpu in there for windows to recognize it.

I'm getting a 6950 soon as well, so I'd like to know if my PSU is good enough to take my 6870 for mining with the 6950 I'll soon have. I guess the answer is no but I prefer to ask.

You might have to cut down the OC but Corsair is a quality brand and I think it might be able to do it

Edit: http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...6870-review/10 and http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...6970-review/11

6870 subjective wattage: 141W and 6950 subjective wattage: 158W. I think you should be okay unless you decide to unlock the 6950 into a 6970
