This things should make wonders under LN2.

The price tag is monstruous nonetheless.

We get it. We get it. No point buying a PHII now considering Sandy Bridge's performance and the fact that bulldozer is now confirmed to be a month away.

really AMD? really.... wow... I guess they are trying to milk every last drop from the PII series till Bulldozer comes out, then they will probably discontinue like more than half of the PII line and maybe keep only the highest clocked variants like this one..

This thing isnt any different then a 965 at 3.4ghz. They will probably peek around the same OC, unless they tested these 980's and named them that just because they reach a little higher. IHS still says 2008 on them which means there is nothing new about these, AMD just want to reach out and get money from folks that dont OC and want a high frequency cpu in their system.

Again, I bet AMD has a surplus of the Phenom II chips and they are not selling as the lower end chips. They raise the speeds to make it seems better and some will buy even though this is probably a 955 with bumped multiplier. I would rather get a 1090T from my MircroCenter at that cost. Heck, even same some more and go swap whole rig to a i5 Sandy. I only am getting a Phenom II 970 b/c it's a trade, I would never buy these AMD chips.

Bottom line: Avoid 980 970 965 and buy 955.
