Exactly, and people are forgetting that they are not aimed at people who know what they are talking about. These higher clocked Phenom's are aimed mainly at OEM's,most people who buy OEM's are average joe,now average joe see's 3.7GHZ and then 3.4GHZ,simple,he thinks the 1st chip is better for his needs and not fully developed e-peen,lol.You guy's forget that so many people dont understand nothing about computers,to them its a magic box that for all they know could be powered by uni-corns or oompa loompa's.The sort of people who buy a PC of Ebay.Below is a mock advert of how the AMD 980 will be described-

Insane gaming rig.
Custom built cathode lighting for enhanced gaming.
AMD 980.3.7GHZ X 4 = 14.8GHZ of pure computing power.
512MB High speed RAM.
Incredible onboard Graphics.
20GB HDD.
350W PSU.

Not to be missed, most powerfull computer ever*capable of playing any game maxed out**

VERY IMPORTANT-NO REFUNDS.

*made by us.
**based on flash based only at lowest resolution.

£1499.

See it on Ebay all the time, lol, someone will see that and be like 'oh my god,i'll take it' before buying immediately feeling incredibly pleased with themselves.Thats just the rest of the world for you.

haha this made me laughed but it's true. oooo it's a 3.7 GHz CPU it must be better than that 3.4 GHz. or ooo it has 1536 shaders it must be better than that one which only has 512. average folks

Yeah but it works, it's been working for iSheeple for years now.

It's like the other day, my fiancee was talking to another lady on the bus whilst dropping the kids off to school and they got talking about computer issues. My fiancee mentioned that we are having issues with Win7 64bit with random lock ups and that we think it may be an issue or a conflict with the Hard disk.

The lady replied, corrective tone in her voice "Oh a hard drive".

My fiancee just snickered and walked away, both names are legible but this is what it's like now. Consumers see the bigger number and go yeah that's better.

I remember when I first was seriously getting into IT and I had a bit of a time understanding that an AMD 'IRON GATE' athlon clocked at 650MHz was capable of doing the same workload as an intel clocked at 800MHz at the time.
But the general public don't give a stuff about architecture or CPU features, all they care about at the end of the day is that it has the biggest numbers or they are right and no matter the experience or the qualifications of the person advising them, we can't tell them because they know better and our years of study can't mean much.

I once tried to feed my girlfriend's parent's dog an In'n'Out burger with lettuce and onions and tomatoes. I gave it to him as one entire bite. With the entire burger in his mouth, he managed to eat the bun, meat, and cheese and spit out the lettuce, tomato and onions. It was a sight to behold.

And to the OP, it is hard to justify buying this chip. Everyone has already said it. To say that this is overpriced is really an understatement, when you consider Sandy Bridge and the imminent Bulldozer release. But I do have to hand it to AMD to trying to keep the Phenom II momentum going.
