Pointless cpu is pointless, just a money making scheme.
I too, fail to see how this will make them money, considering their upcoming release is supposed to render all their current stock of CPUs obsolete, both performance and price-wise. If anything, this release will make them lose money, hence why I'm against this.
As for people asking who would build an AM3 system, you will be surprised. We've got a whole college in our town upgrading from Pentium 4s and we were considering Intel's platform, but judging by how quickly they replace their sockets, they plan on going with AM3+ motherboards and with cheap as chips AM3 CPUs, then have the headroom/long term support and ability to expand to the Bulldozers. I could very well do the same with my next build, depending on how much further the AM3 chips drop in price. Then move to the Bulldozer once the "enhanced" version comes out. Simples.
