555BE unlocked to quad core but sudden off when around 55 degree

Thread Starter
First of all, I have unlocked to B55 and running stable with 3200Mhz at 1.25V.
Just to remind that, I am using Standard Stock Cooling (I am waiting for GX-7).
When I use prime95 or other stress test software to test the B55 stability.
The temperature will raise from idle 39 degree to around 60 degree.
Suddenly, it powered off (just like the electricity has gone) =.="

I've heard some people said that adding some voltage would help,
but if I add more voltage, it shutdown much earlier at 55 degree~
I just want to know is there anyone having this problem??
As I am using SB850 motherboard, I would like to know is this the motherboard problem or not, because the processor should able to handle 70 degree limits!

Go into the bios and make sure it doesn't have a shutdown temperature. That could be the problem. Or there could be some sort of TDP limit enabled.

Over current protection. I have the same board(almost) and it does the same thing, but it doesn't do it until I get into the 1.6v+ range. Basically your VRM's are getting way to hot and shutting the board down as a failsafe so they don't fail on you. This can be disabled in the bios.. but I personally have kept it enabled because I don't want my motherboard to fail. I would look into getting some VRM cooling.

Two possibilities:
1. CPU overheat, board shuts down
2. VRM overheats, board shuts down as OCP (though with the stock cooler providing VRM cooling, I don't see this very easily happening)

sounds like you have temperature protection on, go through your bios until you find it and turn it up to 65-70c

but i don't think so, as the temperature not reaches above 55 degree,
there are no problems... it should't be overheat or overcurrent~
perhaps it is the unlocked cores faulty@@ =>not passing the TjMAX limits

Well, the unlocked cores do add power consumption. This may be tripping the VRM system beyond limits. ASUS boards fetaure OCP. However, with the stock cooler on there allowing VRMs to be cooled, as well as low CPU voltage, I don't see how they could overheat that far

I would look into buying 2 10 packs of ENZOTECH MOS-C1 heatsinks for the mosfets.I have them on my MB.
