Quick question regarding 2500k overclock

Thread Starter
So I'm trying to get this thing stable at 4.5. I'm going to start OC the RAM after I've got the CPU stable here.

I put this at 4.5 at stock volt and ran prime95 and made it about 10 minutes before I BSOD. In the 5ghz club thread there was a list that said the error code I got meant raise the vcore.

So now I'm at 1.368 under load and prime95 has been running for about 5 minutes.

So question is. Do I need to keep (if I even need to) raising the vcore until I find my good number, or should I slowly raise all of the other voltages as well.

Basically, do the different voltage settings work together.

Side note.. I'm a complete noob to overclocking RAM, that's going to be fun when I get there

If you are stable @ that vcore then no don't change the other voltages as they do not need changing. Just lower the vcore bit by bit untill it is unstable then raise again to find the optimal voltage for your overclock.

If you go over 4.5ghz then enabling PLL overvoltage will help with overclock stability and i find the sweet spot for pll over voltage is 1.72v - 1.76v

vccio voltage should be locked @ 1.1v manual

Also llc "load line calibration" will help counter act vdroop underl oad which really helps with stability for higher overclocks. Mine was @ ultra high setting for 4.5 and now extreme for 4.8ghz

Hope this helps

Yeah it did. Right after I posted the thread, I ram Prime95 for an hour with no errors. 4.5 @ 1.32 v .. everything else stock.

I'll go back and set vccio and be done with this. As long as Prime95 runs smooth while I sleep anyway.

It's been 9 hours of Prime95 blend test and my max temps are: 60 - 65 - 65 - 61 (Celsius)

4.5 Ghz @ 1.368 V

How are those temps?

Try bumping up to 4.7ghz. If you do not want that then start lowering vcore to lower temps but yeah those temps are good.

Good to know because I am getting that cooler this week. Temps seem promising.

Yeah that was at the 9 hour mark of Prime95. I know the vcore can be lowered a little, I was just testing here to see where I was.

It's a nice cooler too, my GTX 580 drowns out any sound it makes at idle and I've got both fans at 100% in the BIOS.

Man, nice I wont be putting my D14 in until I get the Fractal Design Define XL. Now that is going to be silent!

Haha, yeah I been wanting to get a new case to replace my HAF 922. Heard about Fractal and at the same time I heard them coming to North America. So I waited.

Anyways how is the OC coming?

Going to sit here for a while, I'll drop the vcore later tonight so it can run Prime while I sleep.

I skipped the RAM for the moment and enabled XMP Profile. It brought my timings back down to 7-7-7-21.. I'll piddle with it later.
