KÜHLER H₂O 920 - Overkill?

Hey lads,

Just a quick question for the cooling buffs here

I've ordered a new cpu, board, ddr3 ram & HDD for my sig rig, and im also thinking of upgrading my cooling because if had my current for near 2 years now.
Long story short: Id like to maybe get the Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition to maybe 3.6GHz i think id probably be happy with tbh, and i've really grown to love the hybrid water cooling, keeps my current cpu idle at ~17dC

What do you guys think of: http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=NzA0Mzcw

Is it overkill for what i want? Thanks alot, any input is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't think it's overkill, but it may be overpriced. I'm not aware of pricing in Ireland, however these cooling solutions often only perform to the same level of a high end air heatsink, which often go for a fair bit less money.

3.6GHZ on a 955 is pretty much a given, the limits in them tend to range from 3.7(bad chip on air) and 4.2+ (great chips).

Any decent performing aftermarket cooler will get you to 3.6GHz really.

Thanks for the feedback man, much appreciated, suppose i can shop around a bit, but i don't want air, and i don't want a full blown water looping system, as i cba with maintenance lol, so the hybrid water cooling is perfect, if anyone uses a good one, a ref would be awesome

For a Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition at 3.6GHz?
Just get the cheapest one.

I see, there's really not much to say then, you're set on a liquid cooling system

FWIW I did have a Corsair H50 on a 1055T, got to 4.2GHz and had load temps of ~54c. It was and still is a very competent cooling system.

I did infact write up a review of the cooler myself here: http://epczone.net/reviews/battle-of...air-h50-vs-h70 It's a look at both the H50 and H70.

The corsair H50 is cheaper and should do the trick for 3.6GHz.

Usually close to the Antec 620 though, which seems to perform better. I'd go with the 620 if this is the case. If the H50 is significantly less, then that is a fine option as well.

I'm using a h70 with max temps of 55c on my oc. Maybe try one of those.

You can always get the XSPC Radar 240mm kit instead, the pump is more powerful than the one on that Kuhler thing. The difference is that the more powerful the pump, the faster the heat will be transfered around to the radiator and the reservoir

H50/H60 will be more that enough if you want liquid cooling
