Low PPD i7 2600k

Thread Starter
Ok so i have an i7 2600K which is currently overclocked to 4.8ghz which i am folding on and my ppd was originally around 17k (even if it was not overclocked) which i thought was low. Now I am folding on 6970 as well and now the ppd on the cpu is around 9k and the 6970 is around 5k when both cpu and gpu is on full load after disabling all unessential programs. I am new to folding so i don't really know much, but i have read several guides and followed them.

Also, when i open cpu-z, my multiplier does not go up to 48 and stays around 42 when i fold and set everything to full load and real time priority. But if i run prime or other benchmarking software, my multiplier does go to 48. I am not sure what is wrong - if it is the overclock or the program or some other factor.

Also i read that memory could bottleneck folding (http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...hlight=Low+PPD) but i have Corsair Vengeance 16GB (CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9) which should be running at 1600MHz but when i open cpu-z it says 798Mhz.

Can someone explain to me why my ppd very low and any changes i would have to make in order to increase this. Thanks

Firstly, folding on ati cards still isn't great - it sucks a lot of your cpu, and with a 2600k I would not even recommend folding on your gpu. If you want to then zodac posted a guide here on how to maximise ati gpu ppd

It looks like you're not using the SMP client if your cpu isn't at 100%, this is a link to the old SMP client guide which is still the most stable (although I haven't had any trouble with v7.

Also, you need to run 10 (I think) SMP WUs before you start to get bonus points, and with that cpu you can run -bigadv WUs for 24/7 folding - most people with a 2600k folding bigadv wus get around 38-55k ppd.

Are you running bigadv units with your 2600k? You really should, you will get about 50k PPD with it, easily.

And your RAM reads 798 (800MHz) because it's DDR. Double 800MHz is 1600MHz which is correct.

Like fluxite said, folding on AMD cards uses 1 core of my CPU. And it murders PPD, it's not worth it at the moment.

Sweet thanks for the help =D I'll add the bigadv to it.
but even now i am using the smp client and it taking up 100% cpu when i open task manager. but when i open cpu-z it says my clock speed is only 4100mhz even though i have oc it to 4.8ghz. If i run a bench mark like prime95 it will go up to 4.8ghz no problem, but for folding it stays around 4.1 or 4.2 even if i go to task manager and change the priority to real time. Could this be because i am using the newer smp client? or any other ideas?

Have you got something turned on in the BIOS that will lower the OC?
