[[H]ard|OCP] NVIDIA 3-Way SLI and AMD Tri-Fire Redux - Page 13

Since alot of people were throwing mud at me, I just want to make a side note.

It's working. 3X30'' LCD with a Quad-Fire 6990+6970+6970 set-up. 7680x1600. No problems.

First 3 games I've tried are working perfectly at 7680X1600, with 4 AMD GPUs.

So. The AMD Crossfire bridge has enough bandwidth to support 3X30'' LCDs with an AMD Quad-Fire set-up finally. Not a single game crashing. No Crossfire bridge bandwidth problem.

It's sad, because I see alot of people referencing Vega about this everywhere, when he was obviously wrong. For exemple, the Pooper did post about the ''Crossfire bridge bandwidth problem crash crash crash'' twice just in this thread in here already. Didn't had a single crash all evening playing.

Some people prefer copy and pasting what they have read somewhere, while others prefer verifying such claims by themselves.

I hope it will spread now. 3X30'' + 4 GPUs is working fine on AMD side also.

I think some people posting in here (they know who they are) should eat their crows now.

And yes PooperScooper, my death mommy gave her ''kiddo'' her credit card to buy 3X 30'' LCDs. I love her.

AVP. That picture is not good because it's a really dark scene, and didn't set-up my tripod. So it was a ''handheld twilight'' shot.

Now back to playing with those 3X30'' LCD Eyefinity.

And now we know that AMD can also do it with 4 GPUs, just like Nvidia.

Nvidia needs two cards to do triple.

I like AMD/ATI's 5x1 portrait. I'm curious to see what Southern Islands can do.

Testing with a totally different configuration is suppose to prove what exactly? 4x 6970s (using MORE crossfire bridges) on a different MB using 3x 30" in portrait does not equal your setup.

What is funny is that I was testing an AMD setup that is faster than yours five months ago and have since upgraded.

Internal bridge, external bridge, it's all the same thing. And AMD stated that they use the pcie bus when it needs to push more bandwidth. Some how you came to the conclusion that the bridges couldn't carry enough bandwidth and that was the end. Is it really the end or just where you stopped? Why would extra bandwidth on the already abundant pcie bus be not good enough or fast enough???

I just want to know when CallsignVega & Levesque are going to run benchmarks to prove once and for all which of the 2 rigs is faster?

They have top of the line rigs from both camps.

Also, please run stock and Max OC results too.

I always prefer to see real world user results.

But yet you were fully ready to except the prior results when the nVidia system was being massively bottlenecked? Well golly gee.

Also, told you so.

  • Have you tried portrait?
  • Try using the drivers available when he tested it before claiming that he was wrong.
  • You're not using 4 6970s so your xfire bridge isn't being stressed as hard either.
  • Good thing you got the 6990, or you'd be having horrible screen tearing with the mixmatched ports on 6950/70s - again, not what he tested with either.
  • You're also VRAM limited for 12.29M pixels which is gimping fps just like the 570s were doing in 5760x1200.

It would be nice to have 4 6950s unlocked and OC to 950 for $1000. Instead, the xfire bridge bottleneck and mixmatched ports prevent you from being able to do this. Hopefully they fix this for the 7000 series.
