Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 discussion

Thread Starter
I didn't find a thread on these forums so I might as well start one.
What do you think about the board? When I got mine it was faulty and I spent 4 months trying to figure out what the problem was, swapping out every hardware part in the system, ultimately the RAM slots were broken, I got mine replaced and it's working like a charm.
One thing bugging me is that there isn't really much expansion things on the board, I'm not talking about PCI(e) ports, but stuff like fan pins and places to install temperature sensors.
Also, there is no temperature sensor for the north bridge (or is there) that really bugs me, seems this wasn't really designed for overclocking?
How do you measure your temperatures on this board?
Have you got any nice overclocks?

Speedfan or AIDA64 should monitor your northbridge. Your board seems like a solid board to me, and the the 890FX chipset you're running has a lot of overclocking potential yes

Neither of those programs register my NB temp.
Also, I have the 890GX, not FX chip set.

My motherboard overclocks like no tomorrow(Only problem is heat is my limiting factor, unless I go with a full waterloop)_

Only thing that upsets me about my motherboard is that I cannot flash the bios through Dos on a bootable USB Stick, nor can I flash it via Asus Flash utility inside the Bios_ It won't do crap on my motherboard which upsets me, but I manage to do it via in windows(which is risky)

The ability to tell the motherboard that you pluged in regular 3pin fans or either 4pin fans on it and its ability to control both types of fan is unique and pretty cool, so thats a plus there(considering the corsair H70 I have is running on the 3pin fan plugs)

I hate having to put the VGA Slot card into PCI-E Slot 1 to be able to run 16x on a single VGA card in PCI-E slot 2, its completely STUPID_ Why couldn't Asus just make the first slot (Grey slot) 16x ?? I may never know why. When I was running on a single GTX 560 Ti I had to place it on the bottom slot and this caused it to be very close to my Power supply thus hindering its ability to get alot of nice cool air_

Overall, I like the motherboard, its price nicely and I have no troubles with it so far_

Oh and about the NB Temperature sensor thing( I sorta just base that off the Motherboard Temperature shown in temperature monitoring programs)

NB actually runs pretty cool and the heatsink is effective(IF you have air flowing through it which with its design its very effective) Can you say finger touch sensor? lol

I love that it supports IDE Harddrives =] allows me to use my old harddrives.

I hate the annoyingly LONG bootup due to various Bios boots during startup_ I have a SSD but the way this motherboard boots up it sorta takes extra time.

I know its random inputs, but thats all I got to say for now about it anyhow

Not sure what the complaint/s is/are about this board as I've had mine since Dec 2010 and running my BE55 in it 3 cores active @ 3.72 stock cooling with no issues/complaints on anything other than my case & cooler is holding me back from it's full potential.

So do I just install the catalyst 11.5 software for this mobo and that contains all of the necessary drivers? I can't seem to get a definitive answer from the AMD site.
