Can I SLI a GTX590 and a GTX580 and if so, would the 590 have to throttle back? Just curious.

No you cannot.

You can SLI the 590 with another 590 or 3 580s with each other.

If you want to go AMD then you can crossfire the 6990 and the 6970.

No you may not SLI a GTX 580 with a GTX 590. The way Nvidia has set up their SLI is that two cards of the same model but manufacturers can be different. For example you can SLI a MSI GTX 580 1.5gb with a Asus GTX 580 1.5gb, just has to be same speed.

Doesn't even have to be the same speed. The drivers will default to the lower of the two speeds.
