Shorten the life of the PSU ? Well by overclocking your CPU you will shorten its life as well. It's a dull argument. His PSU can handle it.

You overlook the major fact that the GTX 560's in SLi are WAY cheaper. And also bring you more performance. Does he game at multiple monitors or over 1080p ? Idk ... Ask him. His current one is at 1366 x 768. LoL
$250 x 2 vs $500. Or, if you catch sales, $225x2 vs $450. If you go open box, both setups can be had for under $400 (Saw an OB TFII 580 for $379, it was gone by the time I convinced myself to sell the 570 and get it).

For no SLI problems... Let's just look at the last few months: Assassins Creed Brotherhood and Dragon Age 2.

And +100w difference is a lot more strain than the ~+20w from overclocking your cpu, especially when the CPU overclock has a larger effect than 580 vs 560SLI. On a 600w PSU, 100w difference is a lot.

not sure if i am detecting sarcasm here... mine is broke right now and is in for repair, but more vram at x2560 will yield better performance in most games and becomes significant in others..

metro 2033 will see up to 10fps difference at this resolution. it will go from being unplayable to playable

the difference gets more pronounced as you go up in resolution
ex.. at x5760

i think he was referring to a 2560x monitor

i.e dell ultrasharp etc
Yup, exactly, I should have been more specific...
2560 X 1600 is too much for the 560Ti's 1GB frame buffers...I mean to play at that high of a resolution, with eye candy and stuff...

with most games you'll be ok... in a select few you'll have to turn down the eye candy a bit... i.e metro2033

why don't you look into getting the 2gb skew of the 560ti? i don't think it's that much more expensive

Thread Starter
Umm... I would like to add that this isn't an upgrade for my current system.

This will be used with an entirely different build

i5 2500K
Gigabyte GP67A-UD4-B3
Corsair HX 750
NZXT Phantom

I just want to know whether I'll go into any problems like microstutter or unsupported games.

Say I wanted to play a game that doesn't support SLI, will it automatically just use the single card, or will I have to manually go and disable the second card?

Also, will I run into any problems with playing Starcraft II with an SLI set up?

Here is my 3Dmarks11 Pscore with SLI 560Ti twin frozr II OC...

Here is MY FORMER GTX590 that I RMA'd...same CPU, same OC, see in sig...

so, if you play at 1680 X 1050 or at 1920 X 1080, I'd say the SLI 560Ti option is pretty interesting...and those Twin frozr cards are running cool!!!

Not true, there are the 2gb versions from Gainward/Palit...

I'm getting 2x Gainward 560Ti 2GB versions to run NVSurround!

what clocks are you running on those 560s?

nvm i see it... why aren't you overclocking them? it still says 880 on the core clock

mines are the twin frozr II OC...stock clocks...FACTORY OVERCLOCKED

http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N560G...ozr-II-OC.html

880MHz CORE
1760MHz SHADERS
1050MHz memory

Look at the nice PCB picture too...nice ferrite chokes... (msi military-class II components or whatever that is...)

Military Class II Components
- SFC (Super Ferrite Choke) has higher current for better overclocking ability.
- Hi-C CAP for GPU provides more precise voltage.
- All Solid CAPs have longer lifespan.

They end up costing me $240 CDN each...and got lots of freebies(Mafia 2+ Just Cause 2 + Lara croft "guardian of light+ 3Dmarks 11 advanced) x 2!!!!

Overclock the crap out of your 470 and wait for the next batch of GPU's, or get another GTX470 if you have to have SLI (lots of them going in the FS section for pretty cheap). I have a single 470 @ 900MHz core, and everything is super smooth (currently getting ~21700 GPU score in Vantage). An aftermarket cooler or basic GPU loop would do your card wonders. If you stick with a universal block like the MCW60/80, you can add a different card later, most likely with a $10-15 adapter.
