Radiator Fan Noise Level

Thread Starter
So I am looking at two rads, the rx360 and mcr320. I plan to put some ap-14s on either of these. I like the low profile of the swiftech as I would be mounting this inside at the top of a haf-x. However, I am just wondering if there would be a noticeable difference in noise level with these fans on either of these rads at this speed? I really do not care to deal with a fan controller so they would be left at this speed regardless. Martins testing showed little difference between temps with these two rads at this fan speed, so noise is my main concern. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, thanks!

Negligible. If you want a quieter experience, get lower RPM fans.

A fan controller would work too.

Yeah, I would prefer to avoid a fan controller or else I would get the AP-15s. But if the noise level will be negligible due to the higher FPI on the swiftech, then that is the route I will go. Anyone else concur with the little difference between the two rads with 1450 rpm gentle typhoons? Thanks for the replies!

Why the anti-fan controller-ness, out of interest?

That's what I originally thought when I built my first computer too. It's not so great. If you don't buy exactly the right fans, the noise is going to bug you. Fans aren't that expensive, but if you have to keep replacing six or eight of them, it becomes a very costly endevour.

Something as simple as the above would be an extremely worthwhile investment. All you have to do is hook all your fans up to that, then once they're running, turn the knob until you find a level you like.

Any other opinions on the noise level of the ap-14s at full speed against the two different rads: rx360 and mcr320? Thanks again guys!

I can't even hear my 6 ap-15's so the ap-14's should be quiet. I'm personally going with some high speed deltas this summer and putting them on a fan controller.

I saw this thread before, but I was going to stay out of it, because my opinion is to go with a fan controller. If you get a new one that supports PWM control, it leaves the fans silent unless your computer is generating enough heat to warrant running the fans higher. You can also usually set a fan curve to control at what temperature it runs the fans up to. I personally hate the idea that you have to manually adjust fan speed control, because what if you forget?

If ST's are really as good as everyone says, then you shouldn't have any problem. They'll likely be louder on the RX360, since it's a more densely packed radiator than the MCR320, but either way you'll be running a relatively quiet setup for a watercooling rig.
