Ok,

I wouldn't even consider putting a 9600GT in as a physx card. This would actually ruin your FPS in some games.

If you check the attachment, this is a pretty good example of what you want to be heading for.

I have seen some GTX280's going for around $70 on here.

That is freaky. So the GTX 480 run worse with the 8800gt than it would by itself. I am off to the source. Nice find.

It's completely possible and would be epic.

I would personally go with something above a GTX 260, either the 216 core or the other one would do it.

I went with the GTX275 ebcause I got one on here for £70 shipped which was a great find and it was the best bang for buck card.

That's the 8600GT, and yes, basically the 8600GT can't process the physx quickly enough and the 480 has to wait for it to catch up. Mafia II is really heavy on physx. It even recommends a minimum 8800GTX when you set Apex to high.

PhysX is a dying technology... all the new game engines that are coming out use their own proprietary physics engine... all of which are better than PhysX. If you play physX games all the time (ie. Mirrors Edge, Mafia II, Metro 2033) than it could benefit you to uses a 9800gt (minimum) for dedicated physX. If you are not going to be playing games that use physX all the time then it is a big waste of power to just sit in your machine doing nothing.

I had a 9800gtx as a dedicated physX card with my 5870 2GB... it was pointless... I sold it and I am sure it is getting better used elsewhere. Hope that helps.

just was wondering this 9600gt might be nothing more than wasted space. not sure if i want to part with it or save it for a folding rig.

That would be more than enough,

and you can do it in the nvidia control panel
