test house. not many places make and test chips at the same place. i think only the big ones do that.

Correct.... Silicon ingots are created by spinning a seed. The seed grows larger until around 300mm in diameter. This ingot is then sliced to create wafers. There is higher probability of imperfection as you move away from the center.
Once again...

I think that there are more good clockers on this site but the person may not be aware of it.

My experience is that my 4.6ghz @ 1.272 runs about the same temps as other dialed in but with higher voltage chips at the same 4.6ghz.

If my chip was on auto voltages then it would run hot as I am dialed -.095v from my Vid.

Its near impossible to predict accurately, you could be searching for a long time. Its basically luck,if you dont get one, thats your luck.I've never had a golden chip, but then each time you dont counts towards your probality of getting one in the future.Maybe your next upgrade will be your time.

I think there is alot to be said about the componenets you use with the chip as well. Motherboard, RAM and even the PSU can all make a good chip overclock terrible.

Exactly right, it's not just the cpu that matters

Not sure about golden chips but I don't need mine to be any faster than it is so I'm happy....

take a look at the sandy stable club to get a rough idea of what sb users are getting. I created the thread to see how the voltage fluctuates between overclocks, IMHO I think it's quite helpful. It's the luck of the draw im afraid
