Oh come on.. 35nm and yanking well over 1.40 into it - only .05 under the absolute practical max of 1.45v for a 45nm chip..

Excessive OC degradation right there. Just don't go much beyond the 'knee' of the speed v.s. voltage curve; both diminishing returns and much increased degradation on that side of the curve.

Yeah, I only ran 5 ghz once to see if I could hit it and get it stable for 1 hour. Even after that, switching back to my 24/7 spec at 4.8ghz I was able to achieve the same voltages and stability. Eventually I started receiving BSOD's.

Overclocking is not at all guaranteed, as long as the chip is stable at stock clocks there is no reason at all to RMA.

They state maximum safe vcore is 1.52 vcore by there charts. I never exceeded those values.

Well I didn't pay $240 for an unlockable version of a chip for it to degrade within 3 months, when I never came close to pushing it near the max temp or vcore.

I agree with your reasoning, and if Intel has a problem with excessive warranty claims due to people frying their chips, they should be much more clear about their warranty terms and the appropriate specs to run each CPU under.

Again regarding pricing: Intel's profits are in the billions. Prices are high because Intel can have them high, not because people "abuse" the warranty system.

It's pretty ironic that I warned about people priming and linxing their chips for hours on end, and just like back in 2004, I'm getting proven right once again.

Your chip is degrading because of the repeated stress testing done to it at high volts. I suffered degradation this week just by fighting to get into the 5 ghz club, and then repeatedly priming after that and watching the stability get worse and worse. Now 4.5 ghz needs a bump in bios when it was rock solid before (needs 1.275v bios->1.242 load, before it needed 1.270v, 1.236v, and ran blend all day), and 5 ghz needs from 1.428 to 1.440. It used to need only 1.404.

And 4.9 ghz really took a hit, too.

Summary: stop priming and running LinX on your cpu's for 12 hours, and stop folding at high voltages, and just use the chip normally. It will last MUCH longer that way.

At least people will realize that I saw this coming...back when people still had common sense, 10 loops of LinX was enough, and then you just use the cpu properly. Now, everyone is trying to run it for 12 hours to prove stability...all you're doing is proving you can degrade your valuable chips...
