580 GTX getting too hot for my taste - Page 6

If you can manage to separate the SLI both cards should idle at around 45° and 75-85° under load (depending on the applications).

Question on the after market VGA air cooling unit.

Is it hard to install? Any info on procedure online with step by step tutorial?

What is the absolute best after market air cooling unit regardless of price? Aside from water cooling.

And lastly, If installed does it take up more space width wise? I've got to sandwich two cards close together and if increases width space I would be a fish out of water with that option?

The Artic Cooling Accelero Extreme Plus is currently the best after market air cooler I believe. It will take up 3 slots so you definately wont be able to SLI it with your set up unfortunately.

You'll be hard pressed to find a 2 slot cooler that's actually worth buying. I'm not even sure any exist for the 580.

You can cool the bottom card and leave the top one stock if you want. It'll probably reduce your top cards temps very slightly at the same time.

I love the GTX 580's in SLI... simply the fastest dual GPU setup available now... period... I love it when people post up exagerated benchmarks that have nothing to do with the original post. By exagerated I mean the one game where AMD comes close at the highest resolution...

enjoy your setup!

I like nvidia, but they scale like crap now compared to AMD. 150% or 170-80%?

What do benchmarks have to do with the OP's preference and problem with heat in his case.

Take your BS benchmark wars somewhere else and try to contribute to the solution rather than get so far off topic as to argue GTX 580 vs a hairdryer 6970.

Two 6970s run cooler than this guys, my second one just came, they haven't gotten over 85c for either of them.

Yeah and have you seen the crap cable management this guy did? I would imagine with halfway decent cable management his temps won't be much worse than yours.

Single card my 580 never peaked 66C. Something is off with his configuration.

Okay, if I have one of my 6970s running I get around 50c normally, I have a very cool room(10C). I love Nvidia, but the 6970s scale much better, almost 10-20% better.

At how much fan speed?

I'm only using 1% fan per 1C via Afterburner in a 20C room.
