Title says it all.

Me and my friend have been playing together over the internet using lan settings and hamachi (a program that lets you set up a lan other the internet)

I would like to open this server up to the public. Can someone help me test it to see if its working?

you understand port forwarding right?

all you need to make it publicly accessible is to forward port 25565 on your router to the server machine's ip address.

once that's done, you can set up dynamic dns (such as no-ip.com or others) or just give out your wan ip address (findmyip.org) and people should be able to connect.

you'll also probably notice a decrease in latency over hamachi, because it removes the extra encryption hamachi tunnels use.

I have opened the port but I can not connect.

When I try to connect to the server with the server running in online mode I just use my normal ip address right?

And it is possible to connect to the server if its running on the same computer that im playing on right?

My server ran on my PC wouldn't work until I made the IP static.

Also are you making sure you're using the address "localhost" to connect, not your actual ip address?

I put the link in my post, follow the directions.

edit: you also have to make sure that whatever the program designated as your static ip has to match the ip you forwarded in your router's settings. ie: 192.168.0.50

its says my ip address is 192.168.1.50, so I set the portforwarding of port 25565 to the ip 192.168.1.50 and i still can not connect.
My ip is now static.

Just to be clear, you have the minecraft_server.jar and minecraft_server.exe in the same folder, along with all of the other server files it generated? And have the minecraft_server.exe running when trying to log in?

I have no experience with Hamachi, so I have no idea what that all entails. But if you were running this straight from your PC, and followed all of those steps, it should work.
