In my opinion Sony Vegas easily takes the cake. Very difficult to use at first, but once you start using it, it becomes second nature.

I would have to say that Sony Vegas is one of the easier video editing software to use.

AE on the other hand is much more complicated.

I've used both and they are both good, but there are things/effects that one may have while the other doesn't.

Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. They're both industry standard editing software, although the price is unbelievable

Agreed, After Effects is much better than Vegas in my opinion. The price is outrageous, though. I really want to try a trial of After Effects, see how it is.

My trial for Vegas just expired. I enjoyed it, had a lot of nice editing features. Just a tad complicated.

You do know that After Effects is no video editing software but a motion graphics and compositing software?
A non-linear video editing software would be vegas or premiere.
Both are very good. For my taste premiere is a bit confusing.
But with the interation with After Effects in CS5 unbeatable.
Vegas is compared to the Adobe duo more of a software for home/hobby useage.
Final cut is also nice but i don`t think you are taking about strange MAC stuff
But if you don`t want to go ALL-IN: MAGIX Movie Edit Pro is for "normal" people and does a good job.

what the adobe one that comes with its own custom colored keyboard with hotkeys and shortcuts. I did a video course in college and we used that one. we were givin a crash lesson on the basics and then given free reign to screw around. it was a lot of fun and proved even dumbies with basic knowledge can slap together a video on software designed for professionals. I think it was the avid editing suite but I could be wrong

Premiere Pro. Vegas is alright (it's cheaper not better but cheaper). But personally if I had to use anything but Premiere Pro (costwise) and I were just starting out editing I'd use Pinnacle Studios 12+

As the poster above said After Effects is not a video editor. It is an enhancement program much like Photoshop is with a photo. After Effects can be used for things like removing things from a video but CS5 ftw.

If anyone says Mac so help me...
