Radiators Scalding hot - Not enough? - Page 3

Are the fans flush against the rads? I've gained significant temperature drops by using a piece of felt (that is sticky on on side) to ensure that air cannot leak out between the rad and the fans. Not sure that could explain your temps, though.
Edit: I have my 470 (at 1.15 V) and a 2600K (at 1.35V) and stressing both my temps are ~55 for my CPU and ~60 for my GPU.

I'm still leaning towards pump malfunction/flow problems.

Jus like a failing water pump in a vehicle. You will overheat if you aren't moving. If the vehicles water pump isn't working but your driving on the freeway(air flow) you can still maintain safe operating temps. The heat(boiling) of the water is enough to make the water flow. But as soon as you stop you'll start to overheat cuz the cooler water no longer can flow down and all the water will just come out the top into the overflow tank. Eventually you end up with a cracked block/warped head.

But his rad is scalding hot, which means everything is working fine in the loop. It can't possibly be the pump, since the heat is getting to the rad and having problems making it off the rad.

I have a couple thoughts... First off, are the fans pushing air through the radiator, or pulling air through? Ive always heard pulling air through it is better. Also, how much dust is there in the radiators themselves? If dust is blocking airflow the radiators will get hotter... In the reservoir, is there a good volume of water being pushed through? Little/no flow will also do this, as hot water isnt pulled away from the hot components fast enough.

You may have the wrong fans on your Rad. I know that some Rads are designed for low air flow and some are designed for higher air flow. So I would figure out if you are running in the cfm for your Rads. Next I would check to see if your pump is moving your water fast enough. If the water flow through your blocks is crap then it will heat up your water more and not remove the necessary heat from your gpu. Are you running die in your line, this can cause clogs in your water blocks that can also disrupt the flow of the water.

The slow water flow would explain way the rads are running at a hotter temp. Because the water sits longer in the block, the water becomes much hotter then if it was flowing through the bock faster. Now the rad is doing its job because its trying do remove the heat from the water. but it can only remove so much heat from the loop. So now the loop will run hotter and not allow for good cooling.

But this is also the same if you are not getting the correct air flow through the rad to cool the water. But you have checked and the air flow is there but may not be correct for that rad.

Bottom line is you need either sone set of some thicker fans or go push/pull setup and it will fix alot, i went from having the stock fan on my h50, and then P/P with AP-15's and it was a massive drop.

Your rad is getting hot, which is good. That means heat is being transferred from your CPU/GPU to the liquid.

But if you touch the rad and feel the heat, then more than likely it's an airflow problem.

We need to know:
-What speed are your fans running at and how much air is it pushing?
-What is your ambient temperature?
-How hot is the liquid before it goes into the radiator, and how hot is the liquid after it exits the radiator? (Just feel the tubing, you should be able to tell if there's a significant difference)

I tend to over rad on my systems but the only time I've had hot rads is when I forgot to reconnect the pump after tinkering. Scalding hot sounds way wrong to me.

It still could be a flow problem. Yes I agree that a "warm" radiator is normal but a "scalding hot" radiator is not. My analogy with the car is a good example. Since the water is probably boiling. The boiling effect may be just enough to creat flow(heat goes up). And since the fans are cooling the radiators and liquid inside(cold water will fall). That process will keep the water flowing but not enough to cool the system.

I can hardly feel any airflow from my GT's through my RX480, but it's there. I don't go over 46C, on CPU or GPU, and the radiator itself is only ever a little hot to the touch. There is something seriously wrong.

I'd try some different fans, then go from there, as that's the easiest fix, but it could well be a flow issue caused by the pump, too. I'm betting it's the pump.
