Crucial C300 Firmware, does it still reformat the drive?

Thread Starter
I bought a Crucial C300. Is there anyway to check the firmware from windows 7? Or do you need to run the firmware boot cd just to see it? Are the firmware updates still erasing all of the data on the SSD? Is it better to stick at firwmare 0006 or update to 0007

If you want to check your firmware just install SSDlife, it usually tells you. And firmware upgrades are highly recommended to get the most out of the drive. Upgrading the firmware will erase the drive.

So with my motherboard in my sig, what drivers am I supposed to use? I hear people say use the Intel Drivers for the Sata ports, but I don't believe I have those.

if you have an intel chipset (which you do) you have intel matrix storage manager drivers. Should be able to find them on your MB manufacturer's website. You don't have to use a driver though, windows installs with one that works fine. I didn't notice a huge difference with mine.

When I upgraded the FW from 002 to 006 it did not erase any data from the drive.
I'm not sure with the 007 firmware, since I cleaned the drive before I upgraded the fw.

You can check the firmware in Device Manager as well as using Intel Rapid Storage Technology.
In Device Manager, go to Details, then Hardware IDs. The number on the right is the firmware.

Is there any way to check the FM from the bios screen? I'm getting my new build in tomorrow and that would be the best way to check. Otherwise I will have to plug it into my old computer.

Would like to update firmware before I do a clean install of Win 7.

I believe CDM shows the firmware version.
It's also in the details if you look at it in Device Manager
