I was gonna say pay for the cooler on the Akimbo instead lol. I'd prefer a back-exhausting cooler.

Not sure what the whole GDDR/DDR confusion is about, but if you look at the EVGA product page it's GDDR3.

There are still DDR cards out there but they rarely if ever are part of the performance tier options, it's mostly found in budget or HTPC level cards.

ARRG that link is conflicting. The product info says gddr3 but the box in the picture says ddr3.

EDIT: Wow you have to be kidding me. The product page has links to stores you can buy it. One of them is Circuit city which says gddr3 and the other is buy.com which says ddr3. NO ONE KNOWS!!! well actually half of them know.

It's GDDR3. High end cards (even from previous generations) haven't used DDR in nearly a decade. The majority of cards only have one DRAM type anyway, cards like the GT 240 with multiple DRAM types are the anomaly, not the norm.

Check the G92 summary table http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_9_Series#GeForce_9800_GT further down the page for further confirmation.

What is better? That or this 9800 GT AKIMBO that was also posted in the online deals section? I am going to use it for PhysX... perhaps a server in the future if I buy 2.

Point being, there's a greater delta between GDDRx and DDRx than there is GDDRx and GDDRx+1.

Further, like I said, high end cards are almost always built with GDDR. Different levels dictate different performance goals for the card, but it's still GDDR which gives even less of a reason that this card would be 'just' DDR.

@Roddimus

They'd be almost exactly the same aside from the aesthetics. Clocks and specs are identical, only difference is the inputs and the cooler.

What's to get to the bottom of? Marketing determines what's on the box. Every "8" series card from Nvidia since the 6800 has used GDDR3 or GDDR5.
