Need Help Building Computer 1st time - Page 2

Please Help......

Hi I am looking at building a new computer for the 1st time also. I am considering two different choices for the motherboard. Could anyone please help me by giving me their opinion of which one is better or preferred. I will be using a 3.2ghz 6 core amd Phenom II possessor. Any help would be greatly appreciated... The two choices I am considering are:

ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 AMD Motherboard
or
MSI 880G-E45 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

What do you guys think? I am getting a little confused choosing between the options. They both have different slots and different on-board graphics chipset / hdmi connections etc. I think (I am new at this)

Thanks in advance.....
Chad

And to answer your question: Asus is the only consideration between these two boards. Don't think the MSI would last very long with that 6 core if it was even compatible. This ASUS M4A79XTD EVO is much, much better than either of those boards.

Sorry op.

This computer will be only for gaming and nothing else. The max Price that I would like to pay is 1000 but that price can be lifted if needed. It would be great if you could give me some suggestions of what I should buy!

Thanks,

Like Ronin said before, look at everyones posted builds. Also, look at the builds that people put together in other threads. Use the search tool with something like "$1000 rig" and you should pull up many. Also, just so you know, the eternal goal of everyone on this site that is a gamer is to max out Crysis - can't be done for a grand.

Also, once you do your research, post up a build here so that we can critique it (bash it ) and start the cycle of getting you to your perfect rig.

thank you. for the reply. I am having trouble finding how to post a new thread. If you could give me a little direction as to where to find the link to create a new thread it would be most helpful. Thanks

I'm actually not to worried about being able to run crysis, more into the battlefield, cod and portal games along with sports games
post #17 of 29
I run all Battlefield games with whats under my sig on full, And play Black ops x4. And its a little putt putt computer. ( The GTX is a bit over kill, But was a good deal.) You can build this pretty cheap. I'll price it out for you what I have so you can play if your not worried about future proofing, (But as Ronin posted, Bulldozer is out soon.)

An E8600 is replacing this 7300.

My build was $900ish, and for that, you can get better than I have right now, no question.

Are you going to overclock?
High ambient room temps?
Do you need Windows 7 64bit too?
Have a mouse, keyboard,CD Rom drive or anything you can carry to the new computer?

In my opinion windows 7 64-bit is a must, so you can maximize you ram capacity. It's all about the future, ya know. I mean how often are you going to build a new system. Best bet is to spend a little more up front so a necessary up grade later doesn't cost too much. Like Badwrench said throw your ideas out there, in a thread. so folks can check it out, maybe give you some pointers. Search the forum for the info you need to make a proper decision. All the info you need is here somewhere, guaranteed!! or your money back (some restrictions may apply)
