I'll most likely be going for a used body anyways.

More so since I'm going to be doing a lot of macro photography; so those 18-50 lenses won't really get any use from me.

Congratulations, a thread very well deserved.

I have always wanted to invest in a DSLR, but in order to have a good quality one you have to spend quite a lot of money.

I think more of us (at least those that have the money) should look at investing into these higher end camera systems. More so since most of us take so many photographs of our systems.
Thanks everyone!

Sounds like the Canon T2i or Nikon D3100. Excellent cameras

Unless saving up takes too long or you need a camera now, I'd consider waiting until you do have the money. Even the cheapest DSLR blows the most expensive point and shoot out of the water

You two should look at the Canon Loyalty Program.

Essentially, you get a broken Canon P&S (can be found online for $15 or so), call up Canon at the number, and you pick one of those refurbished DSLRs to buy at a discounted price. You get your DSLR with two day shipping and you ship them your P&S, and you're done! For what it's worth, I haven't heard one complaint about a refurbished not looking like a new camera

Tator Tot: Given your budget earlier, it looks like the Canon T2i is perfect for you here. T2i + 18-55mm IS kit lens for $519, or grab the T2i body alone for $447 and invest in a macro lens!

Sin100: You should look at the Rebel XS with 18-55mm IS kit lens. It's still a powerful camera, and while $319 is a good amount of money, it's still a lot cheaper than what you can find anywhere else. I don't think you can beat $319 for a DSLR with kit lens

I actually have a broken Canon Powershot lying in front of me right now. Next step is the money; I'm doing a bit of investing for the future right now though....

Thanks for the info and PM on that! I will most certainly keep that in mind when I run into a little bit of money! Right now I have a digital (Nikon S8000), it is nice for a DC but not as nice as a decent DSLR.
