Need help with PlayOnLinux

Thread Starter
Recently did a fresh install of Slackware 13.37 and I decided to try PlayOnLinux instead of WINE like I normally do.

However whenever I try to run POL I get this error message:
Quote:
which: no wine in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/lib64/java/bin:/usr/lib64/kde4/libexec:/usr/lib64/qt/bin:/usr/share/texmf/bin:.)
which: no cabextract in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/lib64/java/bin:/usr/lib64/kde4/libexec:/usr/lib64/qt/bin:/usr/share/texmf/bin:.)
which: no cabextract in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/lib64/java/bin:/usr/lib64/kde4/libexec:/usr/lib64/qt/bin:/usr/share/texmf/bin:.)
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/home/redrabbit/Games/playonlinux/python/message.py", line 21, in <module>
import wxversion, os, getopt, sys, urllib, signal
ImportError: No module named wxversion
I tried Googling it and all I could find was that I need wxpython, which I already installed so that can't be the problem.

You need to install wine, cabextract and wxwidgets (and maybe a few other wxwidgets-related things).

Alright, I'll try getting those and see how it goes. I didn't realize POL needed WINE, but it makes sense now that I think about it lol.

Installing those 3 got rid of the error messages but now when I type ./playonlinux it just hangs there and does nothing.

Might just be missing something. I don't remember all the dependencies I needed, but fortunately yum took care of them. I assume you have python too?

He's got Slackware. He gets to resolve his own dependencies.

(Which is part of the reason I won't go anywhere near Slackware ever again.)

How did you do the installs? It seems you may not have used SlackBuilds even for a good guideline because here

http://slackbuilds.org/result/?search=wine&sv=13.37

you can see that to run a complete set of packages you need

wine
q4wine
winetricks
fontforge
gnome-colors
playonlinux
prelink

and I also installed one optional dependency listed under one of those. Mine runs great.

A larger point here is that your life will become much easier if you avail yourself of SlackBuilds. One major advantage of incremental complete version releases as opposed to rolling is that it is far easier to track what versions of this work best with what versions of that. Cutting edge is fine as long as you stay in front of the blade and really.... new does not always == improved.

Accolades for distro choice. Now meet Alien Bob. Mad skilz.... and Your buddy.

Ha, which was why I said fortunately yum did the work for me. I'm too lazy to bother with resolving my own dependencies. Although it happens every now and again when I have to build from source.

On topic, it looks like enorbet has what you need.

Well I learned most everything I know about Slackware from my brother when I was just a few years old, but apparently he forgot to mention SlackBuilds to me lol.

Thanks, enorbet. I'm gonna use SlackBuilds to install everything on that list and see how it goes from there.
