Worth the upgrade?

Thread Starter
I recently upgraded a lot of the hardware in my computer. The graphics card, however, has remained the same since I got it after my last card failed and XFX was kind enough to up me to the 5830. (Side note: I've had an unusually large amount of XFX card failures, but their customer service has essentially won me for life.)

I've been out of the market for awhile, so I'm not sure what would be a good price: performance upgrade.

So far, the 6950 seems to be my best choice. It's within my acceptable price range, and it supposedly can be unlocked to be about the performance of a 6970 (although I'm not counting on it.)

But the 5830 still seems rated decently as far as performance.

TLDR: Is it worth the price tag to upgrade to the 6950 from a 5830? Or, do you have a better suggestion? I'm really iffy on nvidia cards (every single one >$100 in price has burned out on me. Without exception), so I'd like to stick with ATI if possible.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Appreciate the help, sir. Would be awesome if it listed the differences between, say, the XFX 6950 XXX edition and Sapphire's 6950. But, you can't have everything.

Are you getting the frames you want in the games you want?

Upgrading from 5830 to 6950/6970 would be a fairly good upgrade in most cases, you will notice a difference in newer games.

On most games, yes. But as soon as AA goes up, framerate does become an issue. It'd be handy to be able to bump up newer games to the highest when I get them, rather than being worried about AA destroying my framerate.
