components for first desktop?

Thread Starter
So I decided that I want to build my first desktop, but am not up to date with the latest models - can anyone list the best components that I can get for around $2000? Cheaper is better but if it's a sick rig and over $2k that's fine, I just want to get a sense for what is in my range.

i5 2500k $225 or i7 2600k $315 if you are doing something more intensive than gaming.
Gigabyte P67A-UD7-B3 $315
Corsair HX850 $165
MSI 6970 Lightning $387
G.Skill RipjawsX 2x4GB 1600Mhz CL7 $140
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB $300
Seagate 7200RPM 1TBx2 $60ea
Asus DVD Drive $20
Cooler Master HAF 932 $155
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit $100

Total: $1927 + shipping for the i5 system. $2017 + shipping for the i7 system.

My point is that you can build a KICK A** system for $2000

Regards.

EDIT- OH NO! Forgot aftermarket cpu cooler.
Noctua NH-D14 $90
Sorry it is more over budget now. But I don't feel like going back to cut $100.
You catch my drift anyways.

Here's a pretty nice system built around the i7 2600k that should last you a very long time.
You could even downgrade to a i5 2500k, 4GB of RAM, and a 64GB SSD if you wanted to cut some costs, but if you're spending over $1,500 you might as well go big.
Spend the rest of your budget on a nice 23" 1920x1080 monitor and a high-end air cooler such as the Noctua D-14 or Thermalright Silver Arrow.
