Random freezing and shutdowns with Corsair HX 850 PSU

Thread Starter
I have been getting random freezes and system shutdowns with my HX 850 power supply. This is a replacement power supply that I received from Corsair after I RMAed my first one. Sometimes it will freeze randomly and I have to manually reboot the pc when I'm just surfing the internet. A lot of times my pc will shut off by itself while I am playing a game of Starcraft 2 online. At stock settings for my cpu, I ran Prime 95 and it shut off and rebooted itself. The max temps for my CPU and GPU are around 60C. I have ran memtest in the past and it didn't find any errors. Does that mean my power supply is defective again or could it be my motherboard or anything else?

I sense RAM problem.

Did you get a BSOD ?

Did you input the correct timings for your ram ?

No blue screens at all... it just either freezes requiring a manual reboot or turns off and reboots itself. The RAM timings and voltages are correct.

Try going to stock settings on everything, also try running LinX and / or Prime95 and / or furmark to test stability.

First : Run Prime95 Small FFT, this will tell if you CPU is stable
Then : Run Prime 95 blend this will tell if your system is stable (CPU + RAM)

If Blend freeze / crash then I assume you have faulty RAM or your sticks died.

Then run Memtest+ and HCI memtest
I rely more on HCI memtest since it stressed the ram way more than memtest+.
If your ram is defective you should get error within minutes

Might also swap out your sata cable to your system drive. Sometimes an intermittent connection can freeze your system.
