Disable dedicated GPU?

Thread Starter
Does anybody know if it's possible to disable the dedicated GTX 460M? I know there's Lucid Virtu that can switch between a dedicated GPU and the one that's integrated into the Sandy Bridge processor, but it doesn't work for mobile platforms. I'd like to do this so that I can see how much improved battery life I can get by using the integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics. I'm already getting roughly 4 hours for basic web browsing and Office tasks.

Hello!

If your laptop doesn't support Nvidia Optimus technology you can't switch between 2 different GPUs. If this tech was present it would auto switch depending on load.

Well, if it did support switching, there's probably a 3rd party app or a Windows power setting that would do it.
You can override and manually choose which GPU to use in OSX with http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus for example.

So do any of you think that Virtual will ever support mobile chipsets, or is it simply not possible at this time? I'm wondering why it doesn't support switchable graphics in the first place... Would be quite nice. I might just take the GTX 460M out for a while to try some things out.

I wish Virtu worked on mobile stuff:

I wonder why it doesn't...
