Any ways to make it faster?

Thread Starter
Hello, I'm new to these forums
(I've been snooping around, but only just made an account )

So anyway, my question is regarding the performance of my crap-top.
I realise that laptops aren't easily overclocked, so my question here is, is there anything, and I mean anything, that I could try to get my laptop running faster.

Here are the specifications:

Asus X58L
Celeron M575 (Single core @ 2.00Ghz, 1MB Cache)
2GB DDR2 667Mhz (Well, one of the sticks is slowing the other down. They could be 800 )
Intel GMA 965/X3100

So, any pointers?

Any suggestions welcome!
(Except "Get a new PC". This isn't an option at the moment.)

You could upgrade the hard drive to a 7200rpm or get a decent SSD for it. That would make your programs start faster.

Well, to be honest, there isnt much, other than upgrading the ram, reinstalling the OS fresh, possibly without bloatware provided by the manufacturer, and/or getting a faster hard drive to put in it... You might be able to upgrade the CPU, but that takes careful research to verify what you have and what you're buying, and whether or not it is compatible.

Fresh install of Windows.

Delete all bloat software.

Disable unnecessary software on start-up.

Upgrade Ram/HDD.

Thank you for the suggestion, but i'm looking for something to make it more responsive whilst doing stuff, not just loading programs and the like

Still, appreciate the suggestion

I personally would not overclock a laptop as they can get quite hot as standerd.

you can try the normal stuff like doing a fresh install, having basic GUI, optimising your page file, etc
I believe it is trolling, as I specifically said not to say what he just said.

And as for your suggestions, again, thank you, but i've tried all of this stuff. In fact, I re-installed XP after a complete Dban drive nuke

Thanks again

I was planning on buying a T3200 Dual Core off eBay. Still might...

Done

Done

Done

And I may upgrade ram, but from what I hear, maximum ram for X58L is 3GB, and that's not supposed to be a major difference from 2GB

Anyways, thank you all so much for the suggestions!

Do you game on it?
If not, I suggest installing a lightweight Linux distribution on it.
If you upgrade the CPU you may have to update the bios. I had a Celeron Acer Aspire 5315 where I installed the dual core and I had to update before it worked.

Sometimes I might play a bit of CS:S, but that's where it ends for me. (Partly because the crap Intel IGP couldn't run water from a tap)

I've already updated it to latest, thanks
