AMD does have something clearly as innovative as this new technology in it's Bulldozer chips, it is called "shared CPU resources". AMD has managed to share so any core components that a single integer core only now makes up about 5% of the die space. This is being done while the performance level is still about the same. Theoretically with AMD's module-based approach, you could add an unlimited amount of cores to each module and it would not make very much of a difference at all in power consumption. You guys are clearly only praising and showing mass Intel fanboyism by saying they will already demolish AMD with this technology; have we even seen the Bulldozer results yet!? Have any of you considered that AMD does in fact have something just as innovative up their sleeve?

I am thinking of this as being more outrageous than anything in terms of performance. They are trying to compare 32nm sandy bridge to 22nm 3d gate ivy bridge. A huge majority of that gain probably comes more from the die shrink rather than the actual 3D transistor. It was announced that IB would be 20-30% faster without the 3D transistors; this announcement puts it at 7% faster. Huge benefit? Perhaps not. More expensive to manufacture? Perhaps. And what does that mean: more expensive CPUs for us consumers.

Yeah, that's right, Intel could just be using this as another excuse to milk more money out of your pocket. But with such an early and undetailed announcement, anything is a possibility, no?

How much would you invest? That sounds like a good plan i may take a chance biggrin.gif

This is the second thread about 3d transistors that has been necro'd in the last 30 minutes GG.
