A friend is selling me a PNY GTX 480 for like $200 or so, and he hasn't registered the card.

Couple of things,

1.) Is it worth it? Or should I save up? Running a 1680 x 1050 resolution

2.) Can I get the warranty? Even if I don't have the receipt and say it was a "gift"
Yes it's worth it. I had left the red team (6970) to get back with the green team and bought a 480 GTX. And I have no regrets buddy Check out my story... http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/1000...l#post13277202

1) It's worth it if you can find a 480 for no more than $300 IMO.

2) That's a good question

I contacted PNY via email and check if they will let me register as a "gift" (no receipt) and get their lifetime warranty.

So if they say no, then I am not too sure I want to take a risk :/

If you do get the gigabyte gtx 480 Super Overclock, Its the fastest of the 480 and runs the coolest, also uses less power than a reference 480

Hello

Thank you for contacting PNY Technical Support.

PNY will not accept any returns products for replacment under the warranty Without a Sales receipt, See if you can get a copy from it or a gift receipt

I apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused.
I'm not sure if I should buy it now...

Only a used card can compete at that price.

Also, not all 570's are plagued with the VRM issue. Too many people are shying away from 570's..... I rolled the dice twice, no issues here.
