How do you remove cable sleeving?

Thread Starter
I don't see any threads explaining how to properly and most efficiently remove the factory sleeving.

I want to know what everyones techniques are for removing the heat shrink.

What i do is heat up the heat shrink with a lighter to melt the adhesive, then slowly peel the heat shrink off which takes forever.

Are there any other proper techniques im not aware of to help speed up this process???

yea, there is, nail scissors, wedge then through the sleeving and make sure your not going to cut a wire then cut away. id suggest going it over a bin though since the sleeving falls apart and the fibres are impossible to pick up, not to mention kinda sharp

I use a hobby knife. I haven't come across any adhesive heat shrink, but applying heat to it would make things easier.

I use a seam ripper from my wife's sewing kit to slice through heatshrink.

+1 for seam ripper

I would just take a razer blade and carefully cut the heatshrink, then see if i could slide the sleeving off over the connector. If not then just use nail scissors like Kal recommended and cut it off.

I use an X-acto knife and butane torch. First I heat the blade until it turns black. Then I know it's hot enough to cut through several pieces of heat shrink without stopping to re-heat. Then I proceed to cut the sleeving off with scissors. If cable ties or other forms of holding the sleeving on are found, I have a small set of end-cutters that do the job quite well.
