Hey all...

i am currently in the works of building a PC inside a G3 Case...

and i thought i would post my progress and pics of steps as i go along...

The parts and specs are here

http://www.overclock.net/system.php?i=74800

I plan to use this for

A File/Media Server
A Secondary gaming box...

I have always liked the G3 case due to how easy it is to work on your pc as shown below

.....

I will update with pic with the mods that i do to make the new motherboard fit and work..

Let me know what you guys think

That is a really dumb rule. You should be able to install bought software on anything you want and discuss it.

Not if it violates Apples EULA, even if it didn't, it's against the ToS regardless, so isn't up for debate.

Try to stay on topic.

I've seen one PC in a G3 case and it was a little cramped, be interesting to see what you can do.

^I second that.

What graphics card are you planning on using? That case is nice but a little cramped.

It is not a dumb rule, Apple states in its EULA that it prohibited to instal their OS on a computer that is not Macintosh

On Topic: Its ind of an ugly case, but are you sure the components will fit?

What the... this is going to be interesting. I have to say I enjoy the look of the new Mac Pro much better than that old case. It looks pretty nice though on the other hand for non industrial people. It probably has horrible airflow.

The only real issues that I discovered when I helped a friend do this exact task was

1: CPU cooler must be a really low profile cooler unless you want to radically modify the location of the power supply
2: You must make/install a custom on/off switch. Just like Dell and HP, Apple uses a special connector for the front panel controls.
3: Making the case still open/close properly will require lots of modding to the plastic that is part of the handle underneath the motherboard, as well as the motherboard tray.
4: Having decent cooling is a pain, so don't try to OC too much or else you'll have a fireball on your hands

EDIT
5: Motherboard HAS to me a MATX board, no exceptions

It comes down to the Apple EULA; at least for previous versions of MAC OSX, this has stated that it was only to be installed on apple branded hardware (installing it on a system with a mainstream MB or PC violates this). So since the Apple EULA is a against Hackintosh, OCN is simply following their precedent.
