Is PhysX a dying technology? - Page 6

And no, I don't think a 560 in SLI will help your PhysX performance a whole lot. It, too, will be doing both graphics and physics.

Anyway, in the future it'd be awesome if you'd just not flame things that you don't know anything about. PhysX does in no way make the experience worse, give you lower graphics or cause problems. Only one thing does that and that is your rig.
Well i think Nvidia should be flamed for this. By your own admission a single GTX 560 can't really run physx, making my gaming experience worse and causing problems - then you say running physx doesn't make the experience worse or cause problems - i don't understand? As a consumer i have every right to be annoyed when companies don't live up to what they advertise.

Nvidia advertise these cards as being able to run it seamlessly, they don't say buy a GTX 560, turn on physx and watch the fps plummet - which is the truth for almost anyone using a single GPU. Nvidia say Physx enhances gameplay experience - again by your own admission no single GPU is capable of running it properly - how is this an enhancment in gameplay experience?

You say you believe a 9800gt isn't a bottleneck, well there's lots of information out there to suggest otherwise. And that turning on physx can cause a drop in fps - unless your running something greater than a single GTX 460.

Don't flame people for expressing an opinion. And don't go flaming people's rigs either. It's not my rig's fault, and it's not mine. It's just a poorly optimized technology - IMO!

CPU for physX sucks. My GTS450 has proven that for me while playing physX compatible games

So you say that bad FPS when running Crysis maxed out, 1920x1080, 8x AA on an HD 5770 is a flaw in the game? You say that the bad FPS is a problem with the game? Hell no, you don't, or you'd be a fool. In just the same way, it's merely your GPU that's too slow, not PhysX being bad. It's your rig making your gaming experience worse and causing problems, not PhysX. Which is why it can be turned off, not all people can actually run it.

Read my above comment again. PhysX does enhance gameplay experience, but only if you can run it. They're right, it does enhance the experience if you can run it.

I say "I believe", because I'm not sure. I'm going on what the other users in this thread have said. You should try writing "I think" or "I believe" or similar when you're not sure, helps clearing up misunderstandings.

Where did I flame you? I discuss (and correct if necessary). You, OTOH, were spreading all sorts of misinformation.
And not once have I flamed your rig. I said it was the fault of your rig, just as it's my rig's fault that Crysis maxed out doesn't run smoothly as opposed to the game. See, there's no hate towards any of our computers, it's just a fact that both are too slow to do what we'd wish they'd do. I'm merely being realistic instead of flaming NVIDIA or the PhysX team for making a program that does no harm. Really, if you hate it so much, don't use it. That's why I avoid food that isn't cake, 'cause I don't like it.

I believe PhysX is only worth it if you have the hardware. If buying another card is the only want to enjoy it, it's not worth it to me. If PhysX was used in more games (and used HEAVILY), I could justify switching to Nvidia or running it parallel to my own.

PhysX is nice, but personally I'd preffer physics system that was included in GTA IV. I think it was much better than any other Nvidia PhysX game

PhysX is a very nice gimmick, but its not something soon to come CPUs can't do alone.

It was, and still is being used here and there, to make some games more appealing, and because the CPU still has a bit of hard time processing it by itself.

Once the CPU is good enough to handle the load of the game and the physics calculations, and game engines will use it in a more effective way, physx will die completely.

Until than, it was never "dying" or "dead" or anything.
It was always a just a nice gimmick, and will stay that way.

Nvidia aren't really making new drivers for it (a few fixes here and there), and they don't push it enough, as game engines today need the physx ability less and can do most things themselves with the help of the CPU.
