Core i5 760 Overclocking help!!!

Thread Starter
I am fairly new to the computer world, and I have only been building for a little over a year. Overclocking is something that I have never really tried to do, and for the past week I have been trying to read up and learn about it as much as possible. For the last two days I have been trying to overclock my system, with no success. Half the time, when I edit the BIOS, by hitting save and exit, I just get a black screen and nothing ever comes back up. I have to manually shut the computer down and turn it back on, and then receive an "overclock has failed" message.

Specs:
Core i5 760 @2.8ghz
Corsair H50
4 Mushkin 2gig sticks DDr3 1333
Asus P7P55D-E Pro
XFX radeon HD 6870
Antec 1000wat PSU
Antec 1200 case.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Again, I am new to the game of overclocking, so if it is not too much to ask, please no abbreviations for BIOS settings. Odds are I will have no clue what you are referring to .

Hi and welcome to OCN.
I've been a bit slack recently with the whole OC'ing thing but I know when I was doing mine I was having almost the exact same problems. After a bit of research I found that I had made a rookie error and left the voltage set as 'auto', so I went and did some research and looked at other people's OC's of similar cpu/mobo configurations. After looking at these I just sorta guessed it haha but eventually I came up with a stable overclock.
I cant really offer much advice as Im not the most experienced but it would certainly help if you looked at other peoples achievements. There are many clubs throughout the forum that you can look for similar builds to yours. Establish a goal and work towards it based on what others have achieved.

Also on a slightly different note, in your profile you can add whats called your 'sigrig' (signature PC build). When you add all of the parts they will be shown under any of your comments and this just makes it easier for people to see your full build and help you out the best they can. If you dont know what im talking about just look a bit further down, I should have one at the end of mine...

Good luck, and happy OC'ing!

I did not leave the voltages as auto.. The CPU voltage was 1.25 and memory was 1.5, and this is coming off the top of my head, so it may have been different. As for the signature thank you very much

multiplier is for CPU

EDIT: I see what your asking now, sorry haha

Also you might want to give the guides a look, there's heaps of How-To threads on here.

Sorry total for got. Like stated before the x20 is for the cpu and I am not very experienced with asus bios but it should be somewhere near your cpu settings.

No problem, haha. Does anyone know anything about why my BIOS bugs out when I save and exit after making an edit.. I have to CMOS it, just to make changes for it to reboot properly.

No problem, but I really don't see anything about a ram ratio.

Being Asus it might not list the memory multi just the DRAM Frequencies available based on the multipliers. Your going to be looking at setting it to the lowest option available which is representative of 2:6 or 6 times the baseclock to best match you RAM. You can see if you can push it later on but start out with it set low.

The uncore voltage which is probably IMC Voltage on that BIOS is going to play a role here as well. 1.25v to 1.3v should get it. I like to set it on the high end and then go back and lower it after I get everything else stable.

vcore it's just going to take what it takes, they are all diferent.

You might try 191 X 21 compared to 200 X 20. Again each is different. Mine prefers 191 X 21 as it takes less voltage to get it stable vs 200 X 20.
