Most realistic fps game in multiplayer war? - Page 2

The problem I have with these kinds of games is that people tend to think they're the most realistic representations of combat simply because they're the slowest/clunkiest/one-hit-killiest.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Rainbow Six, but read up on actual commando/SWAT room breaching & clearing tactics, and you'll see that Rainbow Six is in slow motion. The commandos tiptoe around at turbo molasses speed and take a full 2 seconds to shrink their reticules to shootable radii.

Whereas the real life versions stuff 5 guys into a room at once, and proceed to place lead in the heads of bad guys without aiming down the sight WHILE MOVING.

Realistic, my ass.

Most realistic... definitely Red Orchestra...I can't believe no one mentioned it...beside RO...Flashpoint/ARMA series...and that's about it.

Arma 2 is the most realistic especially with the ACE mod, but from what I've heard about its community is that they play co-op a lot. If you're mainly interested in team vs team games, try Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2. There's also Red Orchestra for WW2, and Red Orchestra 2 is coming out this year.

Also BC2 isn't realistic at all compared to these games, be prepared to read the whole manual and play singleplayer to practice and get used to the sometimes painful and frustrating realism. Don't expect to even use vehicles in these games at first.
But if that's too much realism for you, then just play Battlefield 2, more realistic than BC2 but much less than PR or Arma.

What? Arma is made by Bohemia Interactive Studio, has nothing to do with BSS or PR. BIS is a Czech game developer while BSS is an international team of modders who work on various mods for BF2, Crysis and now Arma 2.

Edit: I can't speak for Arma 2, even though I'm sure it's the same, but what's amazing about these games is the level of teamwork between strangers. Get a mic, it's extremely useful (in PR some squad leaders will kick you out if you don't have one).

My friends and I played it for about a month just taking towns and whatnot in that mod.

Pretty fun riding around in some apaches just tearing through towns...until an rpg hits you

I still have yet to complete singleplayer in that game.

How about Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam, its really similar to bad company 2, the only difference is that it takes place in Vietnam.

Bad Company 2 is definitely not realistic, but that's precisely why its fun.

Life can be a drag, which is the reason people began to play video games in the first place, as they provided an escape from reality...which is also why I don't understand the obsessive desire for more realistic video games.

If you were or are in the military, I'd understand (even though there are loads of military/ex-military in these games), but for everyone else, there's not much in common between their lives and realistic FPS. I don't really understand your argument. Pretending to be a soldier is just as valid as pretending to be a mage or gun-blazing rambo character.

Look at these games as more as an "attempt" to capture the realism. Of course they are not 100% authentic when it comes to reality warfare but I do believe these titles I mentioned have gotten closest to real warfare in pc gaming history.

I could say the same for Americas Army as well.

This is a pretty broad and vague claim you made here. Some people like games where you just run around and mindlessly blow stuff up. Others like puzzles or games that test the mind. Some people's fantasies are playing in a Star Wars kind of world. Others like to be part of a battle driving tanks or flying apaches. Other just like to fly 747s or drive racing cars.

Just because you do not enjoy games that touch a little more with reality than fiction, doesn't mean everyone else does as well.

To me, their main selling point isn't realism, but the teamwork that these games require, in part due to the realism-based game mechanics. Of course, realism also makes the game less frustrating in some respects.
