1090T & 890FXA-UD5 Overclocking

Thread Starter
Hey everyone. I'm a long-time lurker of these forums. I used to frequent TweakTown but they just don't seem to have much AMD support/knowledge so I thought I would try my luck here.

I've been heavily fighting my system for probably 2 months trying to get a stable overclock. The first 2 times I rushed and had various issues. The more recent time though I spent some time learning about the quirks and methods of overclocking the Phenom II. I now have a stable overclock but it's not quite where I want to be. It falls short of what I know this system is capable of. Here's where I'm at:

CPU: 250 x 15 = 3.75GHz
NB & HT: 2.75GHz
Core Performance Boost: Disabled
Cool N Quiet: Enabled
PCI-E: 100MHz
Memory: 6.66 multi = 1666MHz 9-9-9-24-33-1T

Volts:
1.59v Memory
1.375v CPU NB VID
1.425v CPU

It's stable. Probably 30 hours World Community Grid (all results valid), hour of Linpack (in OCCT) plus an overnight session of Prime95. Plays good in all games, I haven't had a problem. But, it's a very simple overclock. Just earlier today, I tried 255MHz FSB and that failed real quick, I even bumped volts up 2 notches on the CPU NB and CPU. I've tried a lot of settings that I can't even remember and this is the best I've gotten. Where am I going wrong? Thanks in advance for any help posted.

You should be keeping your HT Link as close to 2000mhz as possible.

I tried and it failed immediately at 4GHz. I like the high FSB and I've read that multipliers above 16-17 don't play well with Cool N Quiet (which is a must, I like the low power and low temps).

I will try 2GHz HT Link. Any other suggestions?

Actually it's above 18 for a cpu multiplier that doesn't allow C&Q to work. But I know what you mean here.

I can get my setup to run at 255MHz but it's really pushing my Ram being it's tightened. Have you tried increasing the Dram voltage at 255MHz? Maybe your in the same boat as me with your ram. My dram voltage stock is 1.35v and to run at 255MHz it takes 1,62v.

My motherboard actually overvolts so 1.59 is 1.6v. I did bump up to 1.61 with no change in stability. This RAM apparently does 1.9GHz at 9-9-9 or 1.6GHz at 7-7-7. It should be able to handle 1.7GHz at 9-9-9 with 1.6v.

Also, to state my goal, I would ultimately like to see close to 3GHz NB, 4GHz CPU and maybe 1.7GHz 8-8-8 RAM.

Just tried the following and I got instant Computation Error in World Community Grid:

250 x 16 = 4GHz CPU
2750MHz NB
2000MHz HT Link
1.4v CPU NB VID
1.2v NB
1.475v CPU

Something's not right, those voltages should be more than enough.

Are you on the newest bios? Can you back down the NB frequency one multi and see if it helps?

I'm on F6 which is the newest the last I checked. I know the 2750MHz NB is stable, it works with 3.75GHz CPU. It's just if I bump up the CPU or NB, it's unstable.

*EDIT*
Call me a noob but I went through the BIOS and figured I may as well disable Cool N Quiet to see if that helps. Then I saw C1E and Virtualization. I disabled those too. Running World Commu... nvm it just gave a computation error. Make that 2 errors.

So, you're suggesting 4GHz CPU and 2500MHz NB? To be honest, I'm cool with stock CPU speed. It's rare that I load it down 100%. What I'm mostly after is cache and memory speed improvements which lie mostly in the NB overclock. CPU overclock would help too and I kinda want to have a 4GHz CPU My old Core 2 Quad hit a wall at 3.92GHz....
