Can my sig rig handle a possible 3rd 470 ? My Kill-A-Watt is saying I am pulling a little shy of 900w already.

900w already? If you add another 470, you'll probably be pushing close to something like 1000w-1050w. I myself would get something bigger, but I'm sure there are others that will say it's fine. I just don't like my psu running at full load all the time.

Assuming 80% efficiency...

900w * 80% gives us a rough actual usage of 720w.
Another 470 will add about 215w at max draw for a total of 935ish.

Should be just fine.

My psu is rated at silver efficiency (says 85+)

Thanks it puts me at ease. I thought the Kill-A-Watt might have accounted for efficiency.

I've been running 3x GTX470's on a Rosewill 1000w PS for months now and no problems at all. I used a Kill a watt meter on this rig and it was hitting ~920w folding with all 3 GPU's if I remember right. I surely would have remembered if it came close to the 1000w mark for sure. I'm also running a pump for water cooling and a few lights not to mention quite a few fans as well.

If you're worried about it, step up to a 1200w. They are a bit pricey but you won't have to worry even if you upgrade to 3 GTX580's.

Your Kill-a-watt measures AC input, before the PSU converts anything to DC output.

Anyway, you'll be fine.
