VMWare or VirtualBox boot from a physical partition

Thread Starter
I currently have a dual-booted machine with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Linux Mint x86. I was wondering if anyone knows a way to virtually boot to the local drive, thus allowing me access to both operating systems at the same time. I don't care which direction (physically in Mint, virtually in Windows or vice-versa). Also, would the changes I make while running one of the OSes virtually be permanent, even when I boot it for real?

Yes, you can do that, but Windows will have fits if you boot from a virtual machine since all the "hardware" will be different.
