Questions About Ivy Bridge?

Thread Starter
I am aware that Intel will be releasing the Sandy Bridge-E with only 6 cores. However, in that time period, Ivy Bridge should be released shorty after and I have some questions concerning this CPU.

-Will Ivy Bridge contain more than 4-6 or 8 cores?

-Will Ivy Bridge retain the 2011 "Enthusiast" Socket?

-Will Ivy Bridge be released in 2012 or the end of 2011. Furthermore, are both OEM chips and separate chips released on the same day or is Intel talking about the actual CPU being released in late 2011 or only to OEM's such as Dell and HP and then release the CPU separately in early 2012?

-Finally, will socket 1155 come with only 4 cores? Or include more cores since the die shrink and new 3D transistors will allow 6-8 or more cores. Or will 6+ cores only on another socket such as socket 2011

Thanks Guys

This is just supposition, but from what it has been written on various sites it seems likely that:

1. No, SB-E will have that spot taken care of
2. No, it will be on 1155; later in 2012 it could get to sk 2011 too, but not at first
3. In 2012 @CES (beginning of January). Most likely the OEM CPUs will ship at the end of 2011 but would get launched at the beginning of 2012
4. I think not. Maybe 22nm would allow fitting twice as mush transistors on the same surface, but you still need the physical pins to access the extra CPU cores.

Cheers
