[Guru3D] ASUS AMD 990X motherboard surfaces - Page 5

PCIe slot layout is very similar to my sig rig. It is a very good layout IF you are only running 1 graphics card. My board has the single x16 slot at the bottom, so my PCIe sound card and wireless card goes above the graphics card.

Looking very good. I will probably opt for the 990x, instead of the FX or 970.

Looks pretty good.

I like how ASUS went back with the 90 degree SATA ports, as silly as it sounds, that's a deciding factor when I buy a motherboard. Not the only one, but an important one.

Hopefully they release a really good quality mATX board soon.

Sounds plausible
How does a Mem OK switch work (noticed them on intel boards before)

All those switches and no convenient reset cmos switch, I really don't like the manual jumper

+1
I don't know why they always put the 1x slots in inconvenient places, there should at least always be one above the the 1st PCIe x16 slot on all boards

My current board has the PCIe x1 underneath the x16 slot, which is a complete fail, seeing that a dual slot GPU covers it (And being a high end board, the user will most like only ever use a card that require a dual slot :/)

Must say I'm with you there, looks so budget if they not the 90deg mounted sata ports, makes a mess of everything, plus it saves loads of saves on the board to have them on the edge of the board setting at 90deg

Look closer. There's 2 PCI-E x1 slots under the first x16. Since most cards are dual slot coolers, you'll have enough room for 1 of those PCI-E x1 slots to be usable.

And under the 2nd PCI-E x16 (x8) slot, there's a PCI and another PCI-E x4 (maybe x1) slot just out of reach of where the cooler would go on your card.

It will be a tight fit but it will work.

Perfect fit for triple-slot coolers smile.gif I like the look, I hope they use this design to it's full potential. Stick more features on and move to EATX, and I'm sold.

o lol, missed that, well that's not to badly placed then, still think all boards should have a PCIe x1 slot above x16 slot
But I guess the x1 slot below the x16 slot is mostly a place filler between 2 x16 slots

Although the 2 PCIe x1 below each other make some nice spacing for a Crossfire setup, at least the 1st card wont be so smothered
