Artifacts on 580 (No Overclock) - Page 4

Overclocking the card is fine & would make some difference in games, just use the games you play to test an overclock. Furmark does nothing for testing stability, just delivers lots of power & heats up a gpu more than anything else will, basically about as helpful as putting the card in a oven for a while.
I would also hope for a vanilla card, I got a 580 superclocked as my first card, & 3 x vanilla 580s since then. Every vanilla card I have is lower voltage, runs cooler at the SC clocks & overclocks better than the SC.

Completely agreed. I used to not think it was worth overclocking GPU's either, but now it makes a big difference in Surround. A good example is in Shift 2, where I was getting mid 30s to mid 40s in frames per second. The overclock now pushes my performance will into the high 50s, which has led to much more playable experience.

I couldn't agree more!

Exactly my thoughts. My vanilla evga gtx 580 is the best nvidia card in terms of oc potential that i've ever owned.

Well, I asked the guy if I would get another Black Ops Edition (A Super Clocked with fancy shroud) or just a regular Super Clocked. I said I preferred the normal model.

He said they have plenty in warehouse just for RMAs so I will more than likely get another Black Ops. When I said a second time I preferred the normal model he again told me I would be happy to receive another BO card.

Oh well. Just going to leave it at a stock core clock of 797 and memory clock of 2025.. Well maybe a little bump in core

It's all good. At stock SC settings, very few games will actually leave you yearning for more performance at 1080p. Hopefully this new card will be problem-free from the get-go.

Yup. Only game I play is BC2. Maybe a little CS:S, Crysis 2, Black Ops, L4D 2, Portal on the side if I'm really bored. I'm going to add a second 580 this summer and that will have me set to completely overkill BF3 this fall. Even at stock settings on a vanilla card I'm not going to be missing anything.

im literally still waiting for a game that outdoes my 5770, its clocked at 950/1400 and has been since i WC'd it, it never fails either....i give xfx kudos for this card, though its an early refrence model with the dual crossfire connections, if i see below 60fps on highest settings in BF3, then maybe ill upgrade.

the last overkill i attempted was 2 9800gtx+ cards in sli, when they were first released.

ended up melting them into the slots and screwing my asus mobo on my 775 duo rig.

thus i dont not buy nvidia now, also martly because evga blamed it on me? lol they were a week old

Well for the soon to be mine, 580 I certainly hope you can't max out BF3 on a 5770, that would be a pretty big disappointment. Can you even max Crysis 2 on a 5770?

The difference between a vanilla 580 and the "Super Clocked" is only 25MHz. Not exactly a life changing overclock. You'd probably get like 1-2 FPS average more than a vanilla one at stock speed (772MHz) IF even that.

It's a scam how they charge people anywhere from $10 to $20 dollars to "super clock" a card as weakly as they did.
