Intel i7 - extreme - Page 2

Agree with Scorpii. A 2600k is basically equal to an i7 extreme in gaming performance, the only things that the extreme will do better is high threaded apps involving rendering etc. Not worth the extra cash, when you could be spending it on other components.

im thinking against the i7 extreme and gunna spend the extra money on crossfiring the zotac 470 GPUs, but i do still want an i7 processor are there any options that are better then others price to performance wise, im still pretty new to this as mikevall will verify

Get the i7 2600k, amazing performance for the money and it has great overclocking abilities. Have a read of this if you're not totally convinced

As a gaming machine, I'd agree with a lot of the above; 2600k and spend the extra on GPUs.

An SSD will make a big difference to general PC usage but for games, GPUs are where it's at.

At stock, my 965 doesn't bottlekneck 2 x 470s.

What will you be using the rig for?

Gaming? Then absolutely not. TBH, spending the cash on other parts of the system will most likely give you a more noticeable improvement.
This. Couldn't have said this better myself.

don't jump on the sandy bridge bandwagon - it's not that great really.

wait for a true big improvement, like intel i7 was to core2quad ~ moving from ddr2 to ddr3 and a much superior arcitechture. Look how long x58 has lasted, and it is still going strong. Wait for the next big thing. Your phenom II x3 is fine for the time being. If you really must upgrade, grab yourself a cheap am3 phenom II - because everyone is clearing them out now to make room for Bulldozer and wait for the next big thing
