Gaming laptop for under $1400

Thread Starter
I am currently looking to buy a new laptop and I'm currently looking at the Sager NP8130 which is about $1299. Are there any other options or would this be the best choice?

Go for a laptop with the i7 dual core with HT, clocked at 2,66Ghz something

I really like this one. Usually can't fault Asus's build quality. I've never dealt with, nor have I seen a Sager before, but the spec is similar for a little less money.

GL with your decision.

The 540m is a big step down from a 460m. The 460m is decent, but is equal to the 1.3 year old Mobility HD5870 in power. If possible I'd look at the NP8150 and try to find an extra ~$200 to fit the 6970m [desktop HD 6850 underclocked]

I know I'm ignoring your budget, but it's a matter of longevity. I'd see it as ~$1400 and 1.3 yo graphics tech vs. $1400 + ~$200 and new graphics tech, so to me the age/performance factor has it's own cost to figure into the cheaper laptop with the 460m that makes it the more expensive one because you'll need to upgrade to a new laptop sooner.

Put simply, which is better?

A: A $1400 laptop that gives you 1-2 good years?

B: A $1600 laptop that gives you 2-3 good years? [A ~1/7th increase in price for a 50% increase in projected longevity... or as Charlie Sheen would say, "Winning" *]

Now, all that said... if I was still going to get a laptop with a 460m, then I would try to cut the cost for pretty much the same reasons and get a G53 for $1200.

...or even a refurb G73 with a GTX 460m or Mobility HD5870 for $900-$1000 because laptops with those two cards are all going to have basically the same gaming performance with just a difference in what the CPU provides and that is marginal at higher resolutions.
