Klipsch speakers are excellent. The amps, however, have left much to be desired. This is coming from a Promedia 5.1 owner who's had to repair the things.

What kind of volume are you looking for? What clarity? Just being "loud" and full of "bass" can be had with a car amp and some random house stereo speakers running off a spare PSU. Try looking for some used Klipsch speakers, and then a separate sub amp for 2.1 system (Logitech, Monsoon, Samson come to mind), and that should take care of things. Or, you could look into some entry level monitor speakers, which will have all the clarity you'd need.
