Besides, it was my understanding that AMD was free to go / has gone completely fabless. If some fab hits some breakthrough that means even more, we might be seeing AMD at their doorstep.

AMD leaving would be the absolute WORSE thing that could happen.

1. Intel would have a monopoly in Desktop CPU's and would be free to charge what ever they wanted.

If BD wasn't coming out this year, you really think the 2600K & 2500K would be priced as cheap as they are?

2. There would be no incentive in ongoing R & D in making faster more efficient CPU's.

If it wasn't for AMD in the good ol' Athlon days, Conroe and eventually the Quad Core i7's wouldn't have been born. AMD forced Intel to step up their game, and that they did. wink.gif

We need AMD for the competition to keep prices in line, to keep CPU's moving forward, and to quite simply keep Intel in check.

That's why I'm disappointed to hear AMD say that they have no plan for 3D transistors, they've been 1 - 2 Generations behind for the past 5 years, and it looks like that trend is going to continue. frown.gif

I still have a soft spot in my heart for AMD, in the good ol' days, all I built was AMD rigs, and this time around I had to go Intel again due to the better performance over Phenom II's.

He (Or she, sorry.) wasn't talking about AMD leaving, he (Or she, sorry again.) was talking about AMD being free to buy chips from whatever fab they want.

"Advanced Micro Devices and its manufacturing partner, Globalfoundries, said on Wednesday that the companies don't feel they need to adopt next-generation technologies until some time in the future. "

Why AMD WHY?

You cant fool me, I want them, NOW.

Phrases you might want to email AMD:
Sooner the better, ASAP, Yesterday, Before we run out of silicone, Tomorrow is too late, Peak OIL, Gloabla Warming, Spaceballs, Bucky Balls, Alpha Omega, Intel has more money in R&D, Katchup, Cat's are up, The cats in the cradle, Ivy Bridge has them, 3D is the new Black, HD was soo yesterday, Black Hawk Down, Bring sally up, Duke Nukem Forever will require it, Red VS Blue, Peak OIL 2 "the return of the hulk", teenage mutant ninja highly advanced 3D Transistors.

Okay.

Globalfoundries ≠ AMD

Sending letters to AMD would accomplish nothing.

Definitely. While I'm excited about Intel CPUs, they do seem to be pulling ahead of AMD at a rather worrying rate

Not that I want Intel to slow down. Just AMD to speed up tongue.gif

But yeah... Still have to see how Bulldozer turns out before I start panicking

Lower cost once yields increase.

I was just pointing out how they are marketing it. It isn't going to go far when they are showing off its benefits being HD playback and games.

All they're doing is showing that they HAVE it working already, so it will definitely be in Ivy Bridge as they stated. wink.gif

LOL AMD don't need no 3d transitors, they have BULLDOZER, it's gonna rock. Intel won't be able to touch them for at least 4 generatios, while AMD just sit back and relax and profit.
